Alpha Studio: bringing a home design to life in Unreal Engine

A home design becomes tangible when you can see how light falls across the facade, how a window sits within the brickwork and how an extension changes the proportions. Alpha Studio brings that experience to the Alpha product family. Our desktop application in Unreal Engine gives home designs a realistic spatial presentation.

The images in this article come from Alpha Studio in Unreal. They show the same residential project from several viewpoints: along the street, at the corner of a housing block and close to an extension. Together, these views reveal both the neighbourhood and the details of an individual home.

The realism comes from materials, light and scale working together. Bricks have visible texture, roof tiles catch the sunlight and dark window frames stand out against the facade. The surroundings are reflected in the glass. Shadows beneath the eaves and along the homes add depth.

The setting matters too. Trees, grass, paths and street lighting place the homes in a recognisable context. The design becomes more than a facade: you can see the distance between housing blocks, the roofline and the space around each home.

The extension shows the value of an eye-level viewpoint. Its glazing, brickwork and relationship to the floors above make its size and appearance tangible. That gives a design discussion more context than a floor plan alone.

Alpha is available as a web application, a mobile app and Alpha Studio. Alpha Web provides the workspace for business processes and project management. The mobile app supports work on the go and on site. Studio adds a desktop environment for realistic 3D presentations in Unreal Engine.

Alpha Studio gives architectural visualisation its own place within Alpha. Seeing a design at the scale of a street, a home and an individual material helps make discussions about appearance and space more specific. The images below show our current progress.
